Bertha was born in Havana, Cuba to Rene and Catuca Doyarzabal on July 4th, 1934. As many Cubans did back in the 50’s, Bertha left Cuba as a young woman to seek a better life in the United States. She pursued a career in teaching and went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Education. She served her community teaching Spanish for more than 30 years, most of that time spent at Kennedy High School in Granada Hills, CA. She ultimately became the head of the Spanish department and was loved by both the school administration and students alike.

She absolutely loved dancing and traveling. She was a regular traveler to Cancun Mexico, spending a month a year for close to 30 years. In recent years, she time volunteering at West Hills Hospital, supporting those in need.

Bertha is survived by her husband Ricardo, along with four children from her first marriage; Lenny, Leilani, Rex, and Kirk. Bertha also leaves behind six grandchildren, Charla, Angel, Rex Jr. Anthony, Haven, and Carter Tedeski.
