Dottie Hur was a fellow Delta Gamma at Lawrence and I was part of a loyal group who helped collate her dissertation for graduate honors in 1958. I remember Pete Davy and I on the floor of Dottie’s dorm room sorting papers we couldn’t read and didn’t understand…..Carol (Pete) Davy and I were English Lit majors.

It is because of Dotty that the history book of Manteno, Illinois, her hometown, contains a tribute to her parents as well as to her grandmother. My own grandmother was their first surgery patient (per my mom) at Hillman Hospital. Drs. Kim and Hur hold an important place in Manteno's history. I feel blessed to have written Amanda Frances Hillman and her role in Korea into the history pages of Manteno -- all because Dotty answered history's call. Warmest condolences as we celebrate Dotty and her whole family. From Melanie Holmes, native of Manteno and author

Dotty and I were friends from the time that Mark was a baby - 1965? I worked with her at System Development Corporation and later with Dave at Hughes Aircraft. Dotty and Julie Breazeal taught me how to shop the Bullock's Sales! I took care of Mark while she was in the hospital having Chris. Dotty was a fantastic cook. She made the best pies - especially apple and lemon meringue. Fond memories of many dinners shared. Dotty had a great brain - very retentive. If she mentioned something on sale for 5.98, I was confident that was the price I'd find. Dotty and Dave and Don and I shared a long friendship. They came for Thanksgiving. We vacationed at their timeshare. They spent Christmas with us. We watched the Super Bowl together. In later years Dotty and I kept in touch by email. She was always bright and congenial and dear to me. I miss her.

I first met Dorothy in 2021. I was her caregiver for about 15 months. After our caregiving era ended, we continued to be good friends. Many visits and long conversations that I will cherish forever. Thank you my friend. You will be missed. Betty Leonard
