Nelson was born on October 3, 1942, in Kidapawan, N. Cotabato, Philippines, to Alfonso Jaylon Vinson, Sr. and Eneda Tronco Soledad. After graduating from the University of Mindanao in the 1960s with a degree in accounting, he began a decades-long career, serving as a banker for the Philippine National Bank and a professor at Mountain View College’s accounting department. After moving to the United States, Nelson worked as a senior auditor for the Los Angeles Department of Transportation.

A tennis, bowling, and music enthusiast, Nelson’s family members remember him as a joyful provider who loved life, fearlessly pursued his dreams, and looked at the good side of life as much as he looked good in business suits.

Nelson is survived by his first family, Betty, Nancy, Bruce, Nelson Jr. (“Junel”), Dal, and Ronel; his second family, Rubie, Russell, and Patrick; his grandchildren, Jana, Brandon, Emily Jo, Bemi, and Louie Anthony (“LA”); and his brothers, Alfonso Jr. and Armando. He is preceded in death by his parents, his step-daughter Cecilia, and his siblings Wilfredo, Abraham, and Eleanor.

The family would like to thank the caregivers, doctors, nurses, and staff at Simi Valley Adventist Hospital and Vista at Simi Valley for their kindness, compassion, and respect.
