Obituary of Gary Douglas Palmer

On Wednesday, December 2nd, 2020, Gary Douglas Palmer, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and Papa, passed away.  He passed away peacefully at home with his wife Cathy at his side.

“Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm” Ralph Waldo Emerson.  Gary embodied this in everything he did in his life.  Some of the many things he did in life was participating in firefighting as a young man, working for a pump company by providing training throughout the U.S.; working on the development of their products; and troubleshooting and resolving issues of the company products. He also worked for a company with the job of rocket engine testing.  He had some great stories to share regarding experiences in that job.  He was an engineer at a power company for over 20 years which included managing updates in the plans for all the power plants. He was also a dedicated member of the Auxiliary Coast Guard for over 18 years, which he loved.

Gary had the gift of giving and caring not only for family but for anyone he ever met.  There were no strangers to him.  He made it a point to get to know about each person and their life. He loved to talk and joke with friends and neighbors and always had a smile.  Anyone that knew him, loved him. He was absolutely a gem and one of a kind.

Gary loved life in every way! Everything with him was an adventure.  Some of the many things he enjoyed in life were baseball, motorcycle racing, hiking, camping, hunting, archery, fishing, bowling, rock climbing, boating, and most recently golfing. He was a member of the Simi Valley Senior Men’s Golf Club. He loved participating in the tournaments with his cronies.  As in everything else he did in life, he embraced and enjoyed all he did!

He is survived by his wife Cathy (of 29 years), daughters Shelli Rosa, Shelley Robledo (Luis) and Carie Baker, his sons Troy and Jason, his grandchildren Zachory Thom (Ethney), Cody Dominguez, Ireland Rosa, Zoey Suarez, Chloe Robledo, Isla Robledo, Leo Robledo, and great grandchildren Hunter and Gunner Thom. This amazing man was so loved by his family and friends and will be missed by so many.  He will forever be in our hearts.
