Obituary of Allan Engen
Allan Engen, 89, of West Hills , CA, passed away on February 21, 2021 in Simi Valley, CA.
Allan Engen was born August 21, 1931 the the son of Engwald (Minnie) and Alma Engen in Penticton, Canada. He had an incredible life of adventure, joining the Canadian Sea Cadets which started his love of the ocean. In his twenties, he set out to sail from Canada, to Mexico, then to Hawaii taking a two year journey that held many memories. He was an avid traveler visiting many places like, Australia, China, Belize, Fiji, Cuba and always his love of Mexico. He talked about traveling through the jungles of Mexico on horseback. At one time, living with a family for 6 months to learn the language. He met and married Berenice Bon (Engen) in 1964. Their adventures together only grew - taking a love of traveling on the road, the camper went from Canada to the beaches of Mexico to the Western United States.
He was a certified scuba diver and a skilled carpenter, as he retired from his career as a computer programmer, you could always catch him in the garage, building, fixing and helping anyone with a project that needed to be done. He had an incredible sense of humor and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Allan is survived by his daughter, Allison Hahesy of Simi Valley, CA (husband Chris Hahesy) and Wendy Hayes of Georgia. He is survived by his grandchildren, Caitlyn Farnham (husband Chuck), Trevor and Kyle McGill, Tyler and Cody Hahesy and sister Olive Imbernon. He is preceded in death by his wife, Berenice Engen (Bon) and siblings: Edna French and Hans Engen.
A private memorial service will be held in Santa Barbara on March 12, 2021 at 11:00am.
