Obituary of Rosemary Ann Petrella

Rosemary Ann Petrella passed away peacefully in the morning of August 25th, 2021 at 95 years of age. Rosemary spent most of her childhood in Steubenville, Ohio where she had ten siblings. She married Sam Anthony Petrella at St. Anthony Church in Joliet, Illinois on May 10th, 1947.  The two spent the following 48 years together until his passing in 1995. Rosemary and Sam lived a happy and active life with two children, and moved to the San Fernando Valley in 1956. The family was fortunate to thrive in the San Fernando Valley, where they made many lifelong friends until 1980. Rosemary attended courses in stenography and secretarial work during that time, in which she excelled. She worked for 15 years in the Catholic youth ministry as a secretary for Rancho San Antonio home for wayward boys. Rosemary was sensitive, loving, witty, and kind-hearted and was eager to help anyone who needed her. Rosemary harnessed many gifts in the arts in her years, and well into retirement. Enjoying pottery, quilting, singing in the church choir, and painting. She loved music and enjoyed many years of dancing with her loving husband Sam after their retirement. She was always happiest with her family, and three grandchildren from her daughter and son. Rosemary was very active in many organizations including golf tournaments, bowling leagues, and enjoyed playing regularly at Silver Lakes golf course and then Spring Valley Lake Country Club (until 1997). At that time she moved to Simi Valley, to be closer to her son, daughter and 3 grandchildren. Rosemary is survived by her daughter Sandi Thomas, husband Jim, and their two children Jason and Mandy Thomas and four great-grandchildren; son Mark Petrella, and his wife Rhonda and their children Ian and Claire, with two great grandchildren. The family would like to give a very special thank you to those who helped care for Rosemary over her last few years including all of the staff at Angels on Tracy and the Trupiano family. Rosemary will rest at Forest Lawn in the Hollywood Hills next to her husband Sam (a United States Army veteran). Love and Prayers are welcomed and appreciated at this time. Arrangements by Rose Funeral and Cremation. Online condolences may be made at rosefuneraltn.com.
