Tom was my godfather, and although it has been quite a while since I have seen him, I have some very fond and lasting memories of him (and Mary too). I will always remember him as a big man, with a big personality, a big and warm laugh, a big personality, and most of all, a big heart. I was able to attend Tom’s service online, and it was a beautiful tribute to him. Jim, it was especially so, because of the wonderful words and stories you shared. You have certainly inherited your father’s story telling ability. My thoughts and prayers are with the whole Hurley family.

Tom and I were students together at All Saints Grade School,Class of '52 in Portland. There were 35 of us and we grew up in a very close-knit neighborhood in Laurelhurst.We all formed life-long relationships back then that endure to this day. We also attended Central Catholic High School, class of '56 and then most of us scattered to many colleges, near and far. Our base was always Portland.We had many reunions throughout the years and kept in contact. Many of us moved to many places but often returned to Portland. At one of those early junctions was when my family was back in Portland after my first job in Washington D.C. and Tom and Mary were also in Portland. We got together frequently and both of our wives were expecting .When they were born I was Jim;s Godfather and Tom was my son Bryan's Godfather. When the boys were toddlers Tom and Mary Moved to Fresno and we missed their companionship but we always kept in touch. Tom was a genuine friend and a very special guy. I will always cherish his memory (as well as Mary's) May they both be happy together in Heaven! Pat Dooling
