Sorry to hear about Gene’s passing.
I don’t have a lot of memories maybe because of my age at the time. But I do remember going with him on a couple of car trips to check out some properties or maybe to collect rent – (He must have gotten stuck babysitting for a couple of days.) The one that I remember the most was that place on Roosevelt Avenue. In fact, I think it’s called the Roosevelt Apts (it’s still there) corner of West Highland Blvd and Roosevelt. I was probably 4 or 5 years old, like about 1964 or so. It was fun and scary all at the same time.
Later in life (in my early 20s) one of my friends got a job at the San Francisco airport with DHL– and I went with Scott to drive his car out to his new job. On the way we stopped and stayed with Gene, Ruth and Mark and had a great time. He generously let us stay at his place and we had a swimming party and barbecue. A few days later my dad Max and my sister flew from SA over to meet up. I think that we stayed for 2 days, he showed us the local haunts and we did a day at Disneyland. My Dad, Susan and I really enjoyed ourselves.
Rest In Peace – David Steckly
One other fun memory that trip where your family - and mine both went to Six Flags. We all went up there and stayed in those trailers, road the rides but mostly I remember Denise getting stung in her eye, well that was swell.
